"Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food." - Hippocrates
"Bad men live that they may eat and drink, whereas good men eat and drink that they may live." - Socrates
"If you are not your own doctor, you are a fool." - Hippocrates
"The rest of the world lives to eat, while I eat to live." - Socrates
"Nature itself is the best physician." - Hippocrates
"Nothing's changed my life more. I feel better about myself as a person, being conscious and responsible for my actions and I lost weight and my skin cleared up and I got bright eyes and I just became stronger and healthier and happier. Can't think of anything better in the world to be but be vegan." - Alicia Silverstone
I find it quite intriguing that Hippocrates was so fixated on food as medicine and the healing powers of the human body, but Western medicine has deviated far from its father's beliefs.... Go figure.
I've been doing some research on DHEA deficiency and RSD, so I picked up a DHEA supplement to try. Give it a google.

Have you ever seen a movie called "Lorenzo's Oil"? It's the based on true-life story of a young boy, very normal... until one day he begins to develop some unknown, bizarre regressive and wasting disease. No one has any idea what's happening. His parents, particularly his father, are consumed with researching after receiving a diagnosis which is pretty bleak.
I'll not say too much, but the oil in the title is one developed which seems to offer some sort of treatment, if not an actual cure, for this terrible condition.
When I first heard of RSD/CRPS I couldn't help but think of this.
My grandmother died from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, aka Lou Gerihg's Disease (we're not related by blood, FYI). In short, with ALS the nerve sheathes (myelin) are disintegrating, resulting in massive misfiring and painful uncooperation from the nervous system. In short time, people lose the ability to walk, talk, eat and finally breathe.
Not to be a downer here - far from it! What excites me are the potential connections I've always drawn between these conditions!
Nerves? Yes. Myelin deficiencies/damage/ and/or bizarre misfiring of nerves? Right. Hmmm.
I can even think of the myriad studies on youth diagnosed with ADHD - often citing the 'nervous energy' of such children, who virtually vibrate!
So when you say RSD may well respond to DHEA - I say RIGHT ON, GIRL! I believe we're absolutely overrun in our society with "Omega 6s" (more found in meats, etc) and so lacking in "Omega 3s) (*essential* fatty acids) which are alkalizing...
Anyway, I would definitely commend your clever-as-always addition of more healthy such supplements to your diet. Brava.
PS Coconut oil is excellent for cooking, adding to smoothies whether you wish for the health benefits only or you'd like to keep/add weight... it's also naturally anti-fungal and is helpful for intestinal disorders!
I could go on with my amazement (sorry, should really post these on my own blog, but you got me excited here!), but it's so encouraging and inspiring to read your wonderful posts!
Much love and health.

Lisa, YES! I am with you! I ALWAYS saw a connection between all these neurological diseases! I am just sure I can cure myself... maybe I am delusional, but my intuition has never lead me down the wrong path so far.
I take coconut oil for my candida, two tablets 3x a day along with oregano oil and it has been helping. Coconut rocks my world!!!! I love it in every form!
The DHEA/RSD theory I read sounded a lot like the Fibromyalgia theories out there.
How did your doctor decide that you have RSD? Do you have other symptoms besides the nerve pain like temperature, color, skin and nail changes? Tendon shortening or light touch sensitivity? Just wondering, because maybe there are treatments for other pain disorders which might be helpful.
I thought I had RSD in my whole body for years, but a doctor pointed out that only my foot (which is cold, mangled, swollen, purple, and usually too sensitive to wear shoes and socks) showed the classic symptoms of RSD. It has helped me to treat the rest of my pain more successfully now that I know it's being caused by an entirely different process.
