Signs of Spring + Some Thoughts on Healing

New Jersey's weather climbed up to a balmy 55 degrees this past Wednesday, so Pat and I took the baby to the park. One of the many first signs of spring are parents arriving at their local parks in flocks to have their children run off some of the cabin fever a long, snowy winter provided.

Here we are on the swings:

Another good sign spring is on its way:

During the past five+ years, I have learned so much about my core self, others, and a greater power, but one of the most interesting realizations I have had has been about responsibility. A large proportion of illnesses, especially chronic conditions, are created by our thoughts and actions. Now, there is no place for blame in healing, but I want you to think about this concept for a moment. If we contributed to our illnesses, than we can contribute to our healing.

Lack of self-love and love for others, anger, resentment, guilt, poor diet, and a disconnect from something greater have been large contributers to the onset of many, if not all, chronic illnesses (this has come to be my belief). Knowing that my thoughts, beliefs, and actions at 19 years old created my illness is a bit unsettling, but I, just as we all, did the best we could with the knowledge we had at the time. Now that we are enlightened, let's move forward to heal past traumas, emotional disturbances, and a lack of connectedness so we may start on the road to healing. It isn't enough to learn how to think positively. You must go back and heal old traumas, whether through mental health therapy and/or spiritual counseling, so you can replace them with a new, positive belief system and way of living. Without going back and challenging the way your past has structured your belief system today, you will be constantly going around in circles, never truly healing.

Can you go back and pin point unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that may have contributed to the onset of your chronic illness?

Happy Healing!

Hi Maria, the pictures of the lil one are precious. Love the hat!

I think you make incredibly thought-provoking points, and I agree with what you say overwhelmingly so and then there are times where we do have to say, ok, this is my genetics, I have X gene and therefore have Y condition. In my case, that is part of it. But I also am ALWAYS mindful to be positive, and create the best and most positive mental outlook to life. People that get caught in negative thinking can spiral downward, and then the negative thinking and depression sets in and then their chronic condition worsens. Viscous circle no doubt.

Food for thought!

Hi love, yes I can pin point everything that has caused my crohn's/eating disorders/stress. I agree, I need to work to heal them. Good thing you are my mentor! :)

Hi Maria, Great post! I find this kind of a touchy subject though. When I discovered Louise Hay (change your thinking, change your life) I was thrilled to know I created this mess and I could un-create it. I'd found the key to freedom! But I've seen many people struggle with this idea. Hopefully, they'll come across your path and you can help them! :)

I don't like to fully buy into the fact that my actions caused my illness. of course it may have contributed but i think there are some predispositions. to be on the safe side i still work on emotional issues. but i have to stay away from thinking that it was fully my actions that caused my pain and suffering. my inner bully that likes to be mean to me would have a field day with that. working on getting rid of that bully too!

Maria...thank you for your wise post! I have read the comments and I so understand that people when they are ill have trouble seeing why an illness might actually be a blessing in disguise of course! What I hope to share with your followers is this - YOU MUST BE KIND TO YOURSELF as you heal. You cannot beat yourself up for creating an illness or creating circumstances that led up to the illness because you did not do this consciously. This is not about blame or guilt. Far from it. This is about learning how and where to accept responsibility so that you regain power and with that power, you heal and once again become the beautiful co-creator of your life and universe with your God/Source. This is where you want to live and having this incredible self-knowledge coupled with self-worth will keep you free of dis-ease in the future. Namaste, my friends.

Maria and followers! Please feel free to ask me questions anytime about your journey to healing and the spiritual/mind perspective that I have used so successfully. There is so much information out there available these days that I think we can get caught up in that and forget that we DO have a choice to heal. The mind is so incredibly powerful - for example, people with multiple personality disorder can manifest diabetes in one personality but not in the others! That is the power of the mind...when used properly and directed carefully, there are no limits to what someone can achieve. That being said, please ask away...I will be happy to answer any and all of your questions. Blessings, Lynn

I've definitely been touching upon this subject these past 2 weeks. I think that this kind of emotional work needs to be done in order to move forward and free up any blockages that are preventing healing. Thank you Maria for this wonderful post!! You read my mind!
