Hi, healers! This past week I started my last two classes of graduate school. This semester, I'll be studying family/couples/group therapy and losses across the life span while continuing to attend my hospice placement. I've been forced to reevaluate the way I approach work, stress, and life in general with a resurgence of my symptoms after a 6 month period of pure healing bliss. Going backward is never fun, but it is important to take ownership in your condition. It's no random act of biology that my status declined. Between graduate school, my hospice clients, and feeling better, I stopped doing those self-care activities so diligently that got me to partial remission in the first place (religious stretching, meditating, reading, praying, and powering down my brain and body with TRUE relaxation - sans worry).
I feel like I have so much to write about in terms of what I was doing wrong and the lessons I have learned, but I'm going to start with what I have been doing to get back on the healing track.
Stretching coupled with deep breathing - An hour in the morning and an hour before bed, particularly to open the bladder meridian. Whenever I have a few moments during the day, I also take time to stretch.
Meditating - A half hour in the morning and a half hour before bed. I focus on deep, belly breaths, and I often do this while I am reading spiritual texts. It helps me to tame the mental monkey.
Reading - Reading spiritual/self-help/healing texts before bed.
Decluttering - Mind, body, and spirit, especially my supplementation regimen. It was beginning to cause me stress having to remember so many supplements! I narrowed them down to the necessary. I'll write a post on this soon.
Rest - PURE rest - sans worry about what I HAVE to do or SHOULD be doing for my classes and hospice clients.
Mindfulness - Using deep, belly breaths while I am going through daily tasks.
Spiritual Counseling - Reconnecting with my AMAZING spiritual counselor, Lynn Walker, weekly.
Diet - My diet never changed, so I will continue with raw veganism, juicing 16oz-32oz daily, eating LOTS AND LOTS of anti-inflammatory, plant-based, raw, enzyme rich foods.
Trust me, this isn't easy. It takes a lot of time and effort, but when the positive results are hitting you over the head, you make time and energy to continue the practices that enrich your life and your health. Lesson learned!
